A24 Drops First Trailer for ‘Friendship,’ a Quirky Comedy Starring Tim Robinson & Paul Rudd
A24 has released the first trailer for Friendship, a delightfully offbeat comedy starring Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd. The film had its world premiere in the Midnight Madness section at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and is set to hit theaters this May.
Marking the feature debut of Andrew DeYoung, who wrote and directed the film, Friendship follows Craig Waterman (Robinson), a man content with his simple suburban life. He loves New Balance shoes, Subway sandwiches, and Marvel movies. He’s happily married to Tami (Kate Mara) and has a son, Steven (Jack Dylan Grazer). He enjoys his job at Universal Digital, a company that helps brands make their products more habit-forming. Craig sees no need to shake things up—until Austin (Rudd), a charismatic and mysterious weatherman, moves into the neighborhood. Their budding friendship takes an unexpected turn as Craig’s childlike enthusiasm spirals into obsession, threatening not just the friendship but his entire life.
Produced by Fifth Season and BoulderLight Pictures, the film also features Josh Segarra and Billy Bryk in supporting roles. J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules produced, with DeYoung and Tracy Rosenblum serving as executive producers. After its critically acclaimed TIFF premiere, A24 acquired the U.S. distribution rights.
With its mix of surreal humor and heartfelt moments, Friendship promises to be a standout addition to A24’s lineup this year. Catch it in theaters this May!
